The New York Skyway: A 21st Century Reimagined Public Space

First and foremost, "The New York Skyway" is a fantastic and futuristic "Highline" for Bike Riders Along the Hudson. And just like "Highline," it is a multi-layered space that represents more than what it is intended to be.  That is "The Magic" of a fully realized Public Space that is first "Established" as a "Solution to a Need," in this case, "The Bike Riders of New York." But as "Word" passes from "First Movers" to families, friends and volunteers, an "Idea" becomes a "Spark of Creativity," and soon a "Need for Bike Riders" becomes "An Idea to Transform the Lower West Side Highway," into a "Double-Decker Architectural Wonder" and the Piers along the Hudson become "Reimagined Public Spaces" for "Art & Education, Sports" and soon to be discovered, a totally unique New York Experience." And much like the "Highline," "The New York Skyway" will become a destination for New Yorkers from all boroughs, from neighbors in New Jersey, Long Island, Yonkers and parts north, not to mention "Tourists" from around the country and the world.

Biking for the Kids: Family Sport, School Sport - Team Sport

For starters, there are over 1 Million "School-Age Kids," K-8, in the public and private schools in the five boroughs. The New York Skyway Park is being designed for each of them. For their brothers and sisters and for their "Mom and Dads." The New York Skyway should be and could be their first-stop, among their first adventures in Sports, community experiences and hopefully building a life-long love for the City of New York. Every child in NYC remembers their first visit to Yankees Stadium, Citi Field or Madison Square Garden and those memories hopefully will blend together with their first day at the Skyway. And we hope to make “The Skyway” a regular stop during their school years, graduating from being a first-time rider to the captain of their grade-school “Bike Team.”

NYC: Leading the Nation in High Performance Competitive Cycling

"New York City is poised to become the nation's hub for high-performance competitive cycling, and The New York Skyway is at the forefront. With its state-of-the-art, double-decker design, the Skyway offers cyclists a unique platform for training, competition, and innovation. A crown jewel of the project will be a world-class velodrome, providing a 250-meter track for cyclists to push their limits and shatter records. From professional cyclists to aspiring champions, the Skyway's facilities will support the development of elite athletes and foster a culture of excellence. The Skyway will host high-profile events, clinics, and coaching programs, solidifying NYC's reputation as a leader in competitive cycling. By investing in the next generation of cyclists, we're not only promoting athletic achievement but also driving economic growth and community engagement. The New York Skyway is set to revolutionize the sport, cementing NYC's status as a global cycling destination."

Imagining the Skyway: One Great Idea at a Time

The New York Skyway is more than a project – it's a movement, a celebration of human potential and creativity. And it represents a world of "Supremely Talented Communities” in a “National Call to Action.” The New York Skyway is a “Challenge to the Global Design Community,” “To Sports Enthusiasts and the Organized Sports Establishment,” “To City Planners, Academic, Public and Private,” “To City Developers, to Builders & Architects,” and finally “To the Great Benefactors of our City Institutions, the Philanthropists who Enable the Dreams of our Cities.” In the coming decade, the New York Skyway will become the “Representation,” the “Symbol,” of a “Spirit of New York,” but even more. The “Skyway” will be a “Cultural Milestone” for the “Spirit of a Nation.”
