Session I:

AI & The Hollywood Writer & Director: Man-Made/Machine Made - Screenwriter vs. The Machine

Let’s see what the expert say. In this session of professional Hollywood screenwriters, we will breakdown the AI Screenwriting process. Our experts, all of whom are familiar with the best in AI Writing software, so that hopefully, will guarantee that the machine-made will be given a fighting chance. Compare and contrast. Let’s start out with a concept, “Create a Series of Prompts.” The AI is generally helpful in “Creating a first page, first breakdown of characters, first explanation of the arc. But what comes next? Can our experts “Prompt” the AI to approach the idea of “Storytelling?” What about “Human Emotion.” Is the professional writer wasting time “Prompting Deep Thoughts” with a robot with limited imagination. Perhaps not. Perhaps the AI is stimulating our “Writer’s Roundtable.” What is the state of the art in “Professional” AI screenwriting.

Petula Miller, Screenwriter and novelist, "Writers League of Texas 2024 Fellow": Originally from Barbados, Petula Miller immigrated to the US and recently became a citizen, sadly losing her awkwardly cool ‘alien’ status. She is a Writers League of Texas 2024 Fellow and screenwriter and works in augmented reality development, building systems at the intersection of technology and art. Once upon a time, she was even in a reggae band.

Christian Cantrell, Writer, Former VP of Product, Stability AI: My two lifelong passions are storytelling and technology. While they might not seem like they have much in common, I believe they complement one another perfectly. A good modern product should be part of a larger narrative. You don't just buy a new phone; you incorporate a device into your life that helps you stay connected to the people and issues you most care about. You don't just download video editing software; you learn a new workflow in order to amplify your voice. You don't buy an EV to save money on gas; you make an investment in a better future. Just as stories unlock the potential of products, technology unlocks the types of stories I like to tell. I don't write near-future thrillers and science fiction to indulge in futurism; I explore science and technology that don’t yet exist in order to put characters in situations in which they can discover things about themselves that would otherwise have been impossible.
