The television experience has now officially graduated from its status as entertainment king of the living room, to the central component of the entire electronic consumer experience. Television 3.0 has now arrived and it includes all of the integrated services of PVR, DRV, VOD, Broadband, Wireless, VoIP and Mobile as a communications as well as scalable video provider of clips and updates to movies and full programming. The competition for the future of Television 3.0 has just begun. With 250 million consumers in this country to service and a global market to reach out to, the media, entertainment and technology companies are not competing in a zero sum marketing arena. In this session, we will address these issues and more.

Joan Gillman is currently the President of Media Sales for Time Warner Cable Media Sales and an EVP of Time Warner Cable. In her role, Mrs. Gillman heads up the ad sales force and leads the effort to deliver advanced advertising, data and interactive solutions for advertisers and network partners. She joined Time Warner Cable in May of 2005 as the Vice President of Interactive TV and Advanced Advertising. Mrs. Gillman has been on the cutting edge of new technology in media and advertising since she first joined the internet industry in 1995. From 1995-1997, she served as the Vice President of Marketing for the leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the health care industry, Physicians’ Online. From there she made the jump into Digital TV when she moved to the UK and headed up the business development, regulatory and legal teams for British Interactive Broadcasting (Open….), the digital and interactive TV joint venture between BSkyB, BT, HSBC and Matsushita. After returning to the US in 2001, Mrs. Gillman served as President of Static2358, the interactive TV, games and production subsidiary of OpenTV. Prior to making the jump to business, Mrs. Gillman worked in politics for US Senator Chris Dodd, serving as his Legislative Director, State Director, Assistant Press Secretary and Legislative Aide. Mrs. Gillman is a member of CTAM and WICT and is a Betsy Magness Fellow Class XV. In 2009, she was named a Wonder Woman by Multichannel News and was named to the CableFax Sales Hall of Fame. She also serves professionally on the Boards of NCC, CAB and Adlink and personally on the Boards of the College of the Holy Cross, The City Parks Foundation (NYC) and the David T. Langrock Foundation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from The College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, MA and a Master of Arts in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She currently splits her time between NYC and Westport, CT with her husband, Ted, daughter, Allison (4), and son, Zachary (1).

Mike Kelly is the president and chief executive officer of The Weather Channel Companies, which consists of The Weather Channel® television network, The Weather Channel Interactive and Weather Services International. He joined The Weather Channel in 2009. With nearly 30 years of experience in the media industry, Kelly most recently served as senior advisor to Veronis Suhler Stevenson, a $3 billion, media-focused private equity firm. He also served on the board of several fast-growing digital media companies - Eyeblaster, Visible World and American Town Network - and as an advisor to the board of Contextweb. Previously, Kelly was president of AOL Media Networks from 2004-2007, where he was responsible for all of AOL's advertising properties globally. Kelly effected enormous change at AOL and in the industry by pioneering the media network strategy through a number of successful acquisitions such as Advertising.com and Third Screen Media. Under his leadership, AOL was repositioned in the media and advertising marketplace and experienced significant advertising revenue growth. Prior to this position within Time Warner, Kelly also served as president of global marketing at Time Warner, working with all its companies to bring cross-platform marketing solutions to major advertisers. Kelly began his media career in 1980 at the Chicago Tribune. In 1983 he began a successful 17 years at Time Inc., first at Fortune magazine where he managed the Southeast and New York sales offices and then as part of the launch team of Entertainment Weekly, eventually becoming EW's publisher. Kelly was named Publisher of the Year twice during the four years he served in that role. A proven entrepreneur, in 2000 Kelly founded American Town Network (www.americantowns.com), a locally focused and community-based digital platform, serving as CEO and bringing the company from concept to operating entity. Today, ATN is the largest "hyper-local" platform and was recently funded by Idearc. A Chicago native, Kelly is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Roy Bank, President, Television, Merv Griffin Entertainment: As President of
Television of Merv Griffin Entertainment, one of the industries most respected and historically rich production companies, Roy Bank is leading a resurgence of the late Merv Griffin’s brand. A seasoned entertainment industry veteran, Bank has seen his creativity and leadership flourish while working with such well-known companies as Mark Burnett Productions, Reveille Productions and alongside TV icon Woody Frasier. Some of his notable successes are Martha, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?; (on which Bank served as both the Creator and Executive Producer); and The Apprentice. His expertise on both the business and creative sides make Bank the perfect leader to take Merv Griffin Entertainment to the next level. In 2005 Bank took the role as Head of Development, Production and Corporate Operations for Mark Burnett Productions (MBP), where he quickly began work on The Apprentice and Rockstar: INXS. While holding that position, the company experienced record growth with the launch of new prime-time shows, daytime programming and the expansion into on-line content. In addition to the continued success of its prime-time programming strategies, MBP’s 2005-2006 saw the premiere of Martha, the new Martha Stewart daytime program which was picked up for a 4th season, and Gold Rush on AOL, the largest internet event initiative to date. It was also in 2006 that Bank was named to The Hollywood Reporter’s “Next Generation, Hollywood’s Top 35 Executives 35 and Under.” In 2007, Bank orchestrated a major shift in the type of programming that MBP is known for with the introduction of two new prime-time network game shows. First, in early 2007, Bank served as Creator and Executive Producer of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, which premiered on FOX as the most watched game show premiere in television history as well as being one of the most syndicated programs internationally. Later in the year, Bank again created and Executive Produced a new game show, Amnesia, starring Dennis Miller for NBC. Before joining MBP, Bank worked in development at Reveille Productions, which was founded by the current Co-Chairman of NBC, Ben Silverman. It was there that he teamed with MBP to produce The Restaurant, the first fully ad-supplied network television show in 30 years. A graduate of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, Bank began his career in the finance industry and gained notoriety in the field with being one of the founders of the first Internet bank in the United States. From there he changed career paths and took his business acumen to the entertainment industry, starting his career producing for television icon Woody Fraser which proved to be the beginning of a very successful career in entertainment.

Scott Mills, President and Chief Operating Officer for BET Networks: Prior to this position, Scott Mills served as President of Digital Media since January 2007, and Chief Financial Officer of BET Networks since 2003, where he was responsible for all financial functions, strategy and business development, and research. In his business strategy and development capacity, he led the creation of BET Mobile, BET's groundbreaking urban mobile content subscription service; the consolidation of BET Networks' ownership in BET.com; the launch of BET's digital video download offering on iTunes; and the expansion of BET's VOD product. Prior to becoming CFO, Mills was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of BET Interactive, the operating entity for BET Network's flagship online portal BET.com. He oversaw the start-up of BET.com and lead the property to become the #1 online media platform for African Americans. He joined BET in 1997 as Senior Vice President of Strategy & Business Development, where he developed the business plan for BET.com and oversaw a number of BET's new business ventures. Before coming to BET in 1997, Mills had been a vice president with the Lehman Brothers financial services firm for four years; and earlier in his career served as deputy treasurer of the City of Philadelphia. Mills is a native of New York, and received his bachelor's of science degree in economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Roger Keating, Senior Vice President, Digital Media, Hearst Television Inc.: Roge
r Keating runs the digital media effort for Hearst Television, the broadcasting division of Hearst Corporation. Hearst Television owns and operates 29 TV stations across the US, mostly ABC and NBC affiliates, in markets such as Boston, Sacramento, Baltimore and Orlando. His scope includes Hearst Television’s station web sites, mobile television and interactive TV. He came to Hearst Television with a broad background in various sectors of the media industry. Mr. Keating has run large cable TV operations at Comcast and more recently at Time Warner, where he presided over the integration of the Adelphia acquisition in the Los Angeles Region. He ran the voice services business at AOL, and also ran the AOL Health and AOL Travel verticals. He led the formation of Comcast’s Internet division in the mid 90’s and oversaw the development of their high speed data business. And he was founder/CEO of a dot com in 1998 named “Zatso” that worked with local TV broadcasters to offer streaming video-based “personalized newscasts.”

David Evans, Senior Vice President, Broadband, Rainbow Media Holdings LLC: As senior vice president of broadband, David Evans is responsible for the continued development of the acquisition strategy, brand development and content distribution across new media platforms for Rainbow Media and its popular and award-winning entertainment brands, including AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel, WE tv, Wedding Central and IFC Entertainment. He was named to this post in January 2007. Mr. Evans’ efforts center on building an infrastructure for Rainbow Media that will extend the reach of the company and its brands on the Internet, wireless devices and other broadband-enabled in-home entertainment and consumer electronics. Mr. Evans also serves as a strategic partner to the heads of Rainbow Media’s brands to help them maximize the value of their programming content in the evolving media landscape, including identifying strategic partnerships, new business opportunities and additional revenue seeking opportunities through both content and advertising sales. Prior to joining Rainbow Media, Mr. Evans served as general manager of digital at New York Magazine for nearly five years. During this period, nymag.com developed into one of the leading magazine industry web businesses reaching local and national audiences, culminating in the Magazine Publisher’s of America Website of the Year Award and National Magazine Award for Interactive Feature. Before joining the online group for New York Magazine, Mr. Evans served as vice president of marketing and internet operations for PRIMEDIA, Inc., developing and executing strategies to expand enthusiast magazine brands into multi-media franchises. Earlier in his career, he held marketing posts at Nerve Media, Interactive Media Group and Dell Computer Corporation. Mr. Evans earned his Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.

Shahid Khan, Senior Partner, IBB Consulting Group, LLC: Shahid Khan is an acclaimed thought leader and strategist in converging Media and Telecommunications industries, with expertise in identifying and capitalizing on opportunities based on advanced and emerging platforms across cable, broadband and wireless. Shahid is currently a Senior Partner at IBB Consulting Group, LLC, a premier boutique consulting firm serving leading broadband-related product and service providers in Cable, Mobile, Media and Technology industries. At IBB, Shahid advises top management at leading clients such as Sony Entertainment, Showtime, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision and Comcast on Digital Strategy, New Product/Service Development/Launch, Merger Integration, Business Development and Operational Optimization. Some of Shahid’s recent engagements include the transformation of Advertising operations for a leading Cable MSO, development of Digital Strategy for a major Hollywood studio, merger integration of on-line businesses for a leading sports TV network, integration of two leading kids’ TV networks, as well as launches of a mobile-based movie TV network, a multi-platform TV network, an HD TV network, and a broadband entertainment portal. Prior to joining IBB, Shahid was a Managing Director at BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting), responsible for leading BearingPoint’s Entertainment and Information Services industry practice, serving clients such as Warner Music Group, Major League Baseball, Reuters, Moody’s and Rodale. Prior to that, he was a Client Services Partner at IBM Global Services in Communication Industry. Shahid holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and is a Fellow at U. Penn’s Wharton School of Business. He has published numerous white-papers, is a frequent speaker at leading industry conferences, and is often quoted in leading publications such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Red Herring, the New York Times, etc.
