Track I DH19 - Digital Hollywood Internet Video, Advertising & Marketing: The Next Generation of Consumer Reach Video on the Internet has finally passed the critical threshold of acceptance by the advertising and marketing communities as a more than viable alternative to traditional media. Internet delivered video has not only entered the advertising space, it has invaded it and in a very short number of years, Internet delivered video will be a dominant entertainment and communications consumer medium. The scary part for traditional media, Internet delivered video may end up on a PC, a mobile device or on a TV and for the advertising and marketing industries, an emerging and maturing delivery system to an ever elusive audience is exactly what they are looking for. Christopher Grosso, Senior Vice President, Emerging Digital Businesses, NBC Universal Digital Media: Chris Grosso is Senior Vice President of Emerging Digital Businesses, reporting directly to George Kliavkoff, NBC Universals Chief Digital Officer. In this role, he oversees the strategy and development of NBC Universals efforts to create niche digital networks that are geared toward important ad categories, which have led to NBC's recent investments in driverTV, Adify and the launch of the Petside Media Network. Additionally, Chris works on digital advertising and measurement strategies, supporting NBCU and the Peacock Equity Fund, a $250 MM joint venture fund with GE Commercial Finance to invest in early stage digital companies, on these topics. Prior to NBC Universal, Chris was an Associated Partner at McKinsey and Company, serving several top media companies and retailers on digital strategy, M&A, ad sales, business building and DTC marketing. As one of the first members of McKinseys internet practice, Chris helped set up several McKinsey digital practice areas, including e-business building, e-tail, digital marketing and digital ad sales. Chris earned a B.S. in Computer Science at Yale, where he served as Managing Editor of the Yale Daily News and helped launch the papers first website. He also received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, with high distinction. He lives in New York City with his wife and daughter.
Mark Weiss, Solutions Executive IPTV/Triple Play & Content Service, IBM Global Telecommunications Industry: Mark Weiss has more than twenty years experience in the cable and telecommunications industry. Over the years he has held a variety of management and marketing roles within IBM, all focused in the telecommunications and networking areas. In his current role, Weiss is responsible for developing broadband solutions employing IBMs ecosystem of ISV partners. He works with telecommunications and media & entertainment partners in crafting end-to-end solutions that address service providers requirements around the management and delivery of content to support triple and quad play. In the early 90s he spearheaded IBMs efforts for video dial tone, broadband networking and interactive television. He worked across IBM Corporation to define and develop the products and offering that enabled the company to deliver interactive content across cable, telecom and wireless networks. The results of his efforts were significant wins at Bell Atlantic, Hong Kong Tel, and Cox Cable. Prior to re-joining IBM in 2000, Weiss worked in the cable TV and video networking industries where he held executive positions at Scientific-Atlanta, in the subscriber systems division and ADC Telecommunications in the broadband products division. Weiss has previously spoken at iHollywoods IPTV World, TelcoTV, and IPTV World Forum 2007.
Diaz Nesamoney, CEO of Jivox: Diaz Nesamoney is founder and CEO of Jivox. Before founding Jivox, he founded Celequest, raised over $20M in venture capital, and served as its CEO until early 2007, when the company was acquired by Cognos. Celequest introduced the markets first BI appliance, a disruptive innovation that led to its acquisition by Cognos. He was previously co-founder, President and COO at Informatica, which he took from a startup to a publicly traded company in 1999 with a market capitalization of over $1 billion dollars. Informatica pioneered data integration software as a category and is now the market leader with over $400M in revenue. Diaz is a trustee of the American India Foundation, a leading international development organization charged with the mission of accelerating social and economic change in India. He holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in India.
Chase Norlin, CEO, Pixsy: Mr. Norlin has spent the last 15 years in the emerging technologies and media distribution space. Prior to Pixsy, Mr. Norlin served as Senior Business Development Executive at ValueClick (NASDAQ:VCLK). In this role he focused on publisher distribution and emerging technologies for the ValueClick Media Ad Network and developed distribution opportunities for other divisions including Search and Comparison Shopping. Prior to ValueClick, Mr. Norlin held the position of Senior Business Development Consultant to InfoSpace (NASDAQ:INSP) charged with publisher distribution and emerging applications for the Search division. Previously, Mr. Norlin created Sony's first online photo sharing venture and founded the web's first video sharing company. Mr. Norlin also launched Boeing's (NYSE:BA) online photo and video licensing division while serving as Strategic Consultant to the company. Mr. Norlin received his BA from UC Berkeley and MA from The University of Chicago and occasionally offers technology predictions on his blog at http://vizlog.blogspot.com. Pixsy was recently selected among the AlwaysOn Media Top 100 Companies; and named in Time Magazines Top 50 Companies of 2006. Mr. Norlins recent speaking engagements include OMMA, iHollywood Forum, AlwaysOn, TheDeal, and Digital Hollywood.
Michael Shehan, Founder, President & CEO, SpotXchange: Michael founded Booyah Networks in 2001 as a self-service paid search network. Under his leadership, Booyah ranked 23rd on the 2006 Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private U.S. companies; Booyah was the top advertising/marketing company on the list. The Booyah Networks portfolio also includes The Booyah Agency, a boutique-style online marketing agency and SpotXchange, an online video ad serving exchange. SpotXchange is helping advertisers and agencies sponsor millions of video streams per day from a large publisher network. Michael lends his expertise to various committees and programs with the Interactive Advertising Bureau and has been tapped as an industry expert by MarketWatch, MediaPost, iMedia Connection, OMMA and more. Michaels career highlights include CEO of Ereo, Inc., a venture-backed image search technology company. Before Ereo, he founded LOGEX International, LLC, an e-commerce solutions provider for the retail and catalog industries. When LOGEX was acquired in 1998, Michael was named president for two of AppNets divisions, e-Commerce Solutions and Outsourcing Services. Michael graduated from Vanderbilt with a degree in Biology.
Patrick Koppula, CEO, ffwd: Formerly reforming the music industry as co-founder of iLike, Patrick Koppula, now CEO of ffwd, is rethinking television for its ubiquitous, on-demand and interactive future. Patrick holds a degree in environmental science and public policy from Harvard University and is a guest lecturer at MIT Sloan on the topics of crowdsourcing intelligence and innovation. Patrick also plays guitar for a San Francisco rock cover band called Bottoms Up.
Peter H. Kang, Esq., Sidley Austin LLP: Peter H. Kang is a Partner in the San Francisco office of the global law firm of Sidley Austin LLP. Mr. Kang is a member of Sidleys Intellectual Property practice group (ranked in the top 3 nationwide by American Lawyer magazine), devoted to serving the IP and related legal services needs of technology clients. Mr. Kang counsels clients in patent disputes; technology transfer and IP licensing; strategic IP portfolio development; patent opinions; and IP enforcement and litigation. With over almost fifteen years experience in Silicon Valley, Mr. Kang has represented ecommerce ventures, online startups, independent software consultants, game developers (including MMORPG, traditional arcade games, and hardware developers), electronic mapping and software navigation developers, and gaming companies. With over 1,700 attorneys in 14 offices worldwide, Sidley is internationally recognized as one of the top global law firms, and has consistently ranked number 1 in client satisfaction surveys. He is an award-winning author and frequent speaker at industry and legal conferences. He received both a B.A. in Classics and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, where he won both the Fairclough Award and the Classics Department Senior Prize.
