The Entertainment and Media Legal Issues
Digital Rights Management – How to Compete with "Free"
The increasing scope of broadband connectivity and the power of consumer technologies made it trivially easy to store, transfer, and share all types of content. Content owners have been reacting by holding the line on price and enforcement (for example the "PERFORM" US Senate DRM legislation). Distribution firms would prefer lower cost of goods and easier terms of use… as would users. So the two ends of this value chain are in conflict… and may have different approaches in mind. Let’s get the major value chain players in one place: Creation, Enforcement, Distribution… and ask some challenging questions. Like… "Why can’t we all just get along?" There could be billions in new revenue at stake for all of us. Maybe we can get along after all!
