Track III: The Advertising & Commerce Platform
Social Media as a Content, Advertising and Commerce Platform At its best, social media is a fully engaging technology experience. At its best, social media includes elements of instant communication like phone, video phone or email; entertainment providing a potpourri of audio, video, game playing and interactive choices; commerce with ability to evaluate and purchase; in fact, as technology platforms become more robust, it is possible to think of massive social media networks as an all encompassing human daily experience, far outstripping the impact of television. In understanding social media, it is useful to break down the basic elements of what a social network may deliver today, and try to extrapolate what it might look like in the future. Ignore current profitability and current weaknesses. Try to image if all features were to succeed and were embraced by the consumer, how the social network might look.
