Rick Dean, Vice President, Technology Development, With more than 20 years of experience in the motion picture industry, Dean guides the strategic development of new technologies and THX certification programs. Over the years, Dean has worked on numerous groundbreaking entertainment projects, including the DVD and D-cinema releases of Star Wars Episodes I, II and III. He served as technical director for the post-production of the Star Wars Trilogy DVDs, a project that has set a new standard for sound and picture excellence in the DVD format. Dean has transformed the THX mastering program from Laser Disc to standard definition DVD, D-cinema and the emerging high definition DVD formats. Prior to joining THX, Dean was vice president of engineering at Deluxe Labs, Video Division. During his tenure at Deluxe Labs, he oversaw and performed mastering operations for Twentieth Century Fox.





Mark Chiolis, Senior Marketing Manager, Strategic Marketing, Acquisition products, Thomson Grass Valley: Mark Chiolis is the Senior Marketing Manager, Strategic Marketing & Business Development for Thomson Grass Valley, based in Burbank California. Mark has been with Thomson Grass Valley (BTS, Philips Broadcast) for over 12 years, both in sales and marketing capacities. Currently, his primary focus is to interface with clients, associations and user groups to assist in determining current and future needs and requirements, specifically in the areas of film products (Spirit, Specter, Bones) as well as Digital Cinematography (Viper FilmStream Camera) and HD acquisition (LDK-6000 and WorldCam products for sports and entertainment production), as well as production (Kalypso, Kayak) switchers and to assist in the coordination of enhancements to current products, as well as contributing to the development of new products and better workflows in the areas of both Acquisition & Production. Before moving to the SM&BD (Strategic Marketing & Business Development) team at Grass Valley, Mark spent almost 10 years in the sales area, handling territories West of the Mississippi, as well as a position of Regional Manager for the West Coast division of BTS (The previous joint venture of Philips/Bosch before purchase by Thomson) and culminating in top awards the last four years in the position. Prior to joining Thomson Grass Valley, Mark worked at television stations KMUV, KRBK, and KVIE in Operations, News, and Production Management, specifically focused on commercial production, including the producing of programs for air, such as Sacramento Kings Basketball, music and event specials for KRBK-TV and additional sporting events for the station. Mark is an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), Society of Television Engineers (STE-LA), Digital Cinema Society and a Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) member for almost 20 years, is currently an HPA board member and is a past board member of the California Broadcasters Association (CBA). He continues being active in the creative side of the business, shooting for key projects, when time permits.

Jamie Shortill, Senior Director, William Morris Agency: Jamie Shortill is a Senior Director in the Consulting Division at The William Morris Agency where he focuses on branded entertainment, content strategies and digital initiatives across all platforms within the entertainment sector for WMA's roster of corporate clients. Prior to WMA, Mr. Shortill was a Principal in the Media & Entertainment practice of a publicly-traded management consulting firm – engaged in strategy work, business modeling and technology solutions for several of the world's largest media conglomerates. Mr. Shortill holds an MBA from Thunderbird – The American Graduate School of International Management and an Honors B.A. in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario in Canada.










Eugene Shteyn, Director, IP and Standards, Digital Entertainment Services, Hewlett-Packard Co.: Eugene Shteyn is Director, IP and Standards, Digital Entertainment Services, with Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto. He is responsible for long term-technology strategy and innovation for the emerging end-to-end digital content supply chain. Prior to joining HP in August of 2006, Eugene was responsible for Philips technology work in Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), and was a Board Member (alternate) of the organization. Eugene started working on early concepts of digital living room in 1996, when he joined Philips Multimedia Center in Palo Alto, CA. He was the first chair of the UPnP Audio-Video committee that developed initial versions of the standard's discovery and control architecture for networked IP-based media devices. First, as a Principal Scientist at Philips Research, and then, as an Innovation Manager at Philips Components and CE, Eugene was instrumental in developing Philips technology vision for the "Connected Planet". Eugene is a named author on 20 US Patents, with over 30 patents pending in the areas of networked media, software architecture, internet services, and etc. He also teaches Principles of Invention at Stanford University Continuing Studies program.

Rob Faris, Executive Producer, Voom HD Networks / Rainbow Media: For over ten years, the 34-year-old Faris has worked with some great leaders in sports broadcasting, which prepared him to make strides at VOOM. Already with one Olympics under his belt, as associate producer for NBC Sports at the Athens Summer Games 2004, Faris has been part of several award winning teams on top TV sports productions, including ESPN’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Sports Century Series. He has also developed numerous concept shows, such as the first-ever Knicks Draft War Room Show, allowing cameras inside draft night for MSG Networks. In 2006, Faris negotiated and landed the Canadian Football League contract for World Sports HD for which VOOM has the exclusive rights to show the live events of this leading league. He also closed the Euro League Basketball team live games, as well as creating and producing programming, such as a profile on U.S. Ski Team World Cup Winner, Bode Miller (Talent & Truth: The Bode Miller Story), which was a spin-off from the series, The Alpine Chronicles. In concert with Mark DeAngelis, vice-president of programming and development, Faris is involved in all the facets of the business and production. From deal-making with international production companies such as Mega Media in Singapore, to contracts, rights, and marketing, Faris brings an emphasis on production values to each and every program, whether it means introducing new HD equipment to outside crews, or going onsite to Singapore to oversee a shoot. Like every great programmer, Faris’s goal is to excite niche audiences but still reach the mainstream.

Daniel P. Harris, CEO & Founder, MEDIAPASS™ Network: Mr. Harris has been at the forefront of Digital Lifestyle for nearly 10 years. After the .com bubble burst, Mr. Harris saw a unique opportunity to connect with Gen Y – X audiences through online music. Prior to founding MediaPass Network, Daniel has long been an early adopter and industry trendsetter in the areas of technology, content, and community. Daniel was part of the team that released Madonna’s 1st approved download on the Internet and later secured the rights and exclusively distributed Internet video webcasts for the most coveted independent live events throughout North America and Europe. Daniel has produced and or distributed hundreds of individual live-on-demand webcasts plus numerous marquee live events including: 2002 – 2003 – 2004 American Dance Music Awards, 2001 – 2002 – 2003 Ultra Music Festival, UK’s MOBO Awards, Farm Aid, and Voodoo Festival. This lifestyle credibility resulted in MediaPass Network being selected by Microsoft Corporation to participate in the Beta Launch of Windows Media 9 Series in September 2002, serve as the national press launch partner for the Portable Media Center in 2005, and serve as a windows vista beta partner in 2006. Previously, Mr. Harris operated his own production company where he initiated business relationships and executed licensing agreements with clients including: Adidas, ABC Sports, CNNSI, and Fox Sports World. During this time, Mr. Harris was a Brandon Tartikoff Award Finalist (top industry new comer) in each of his two years of eligibility. Prior to relocating to Los Angeles in 1996, Daniel was Co-General Manager of the New Orleans A League Professional Soccer Franchise where he tripled revenue and doubled attendance each season. Daniel managed all media partnerships, community outreach programs, and key accounts including: Coca Cola, Cox Cable, Gatorade, Pizza Hut, Snickers Brand, and WWL Radio. A native of Washington DC, Mr. Harris holds a B.S. Degree in Marketing from Loyola University of New Orleans.
