The VC and Investment community has always led the way in recognizing the newest opportunities in the technology and entertainment space. There are even signs of post-bubble investment and an IPO reversal on the horizon. VC funds are always available for the right idea and in this session, we will focus on the four sectors leading the entertainment and technology space today, social network, broadband, mobile, the DTV/SVOD content and the digital home and technology and games opportunities. Broadband, social networks and mobile have been the Holy Grail for the investment community for the past couple of years - the reality of locking in millions of users. Is there a change coming? Sun Jen Yung, Managing Director, Investment Banking, Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., bas ed in New York, NY. Sun joined Oppenheimer in September 2006 to head the Digital Media and Internet investment banking practice. Sun's experience of over fourteen years in investment banking includes corporate finance coverage of Media (cable and entertainment), Digital Media, Internet and software companies at TD Securities, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers as well as equity research at Lehman Brothers. Over the years Sun has represented a wide range of clients in these sectors encompassing a variety of equity, debt and merger & acquisition transactions including Adelphia Communications, Autobytel, Comcast Corporation, Digital Domain, iVillage, Liquid Audio, Mediaplex, Scientific-Atlanta and TiVo. She also spent two years at TCSI in Berkeley, CA in Business Development and Finance. Sun graduated from Columbia Business School in 1988 with an MBA in Finance and a B.A. in Economics and International Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 1984.
Marc Yi, Director, Strategic Investments, Intel Capital: Marc is a Director of Strategic Investments at Intel Capital. He drives Intel's investment initiatives in the digital media and consumer PC segments on a global basis. Marc serves as a board observer of Bellrock Media, Gotcha Media, ManiaTV, and Zensys. Prior to joining Intel Capital, Marc was an Associate at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the investment arm of the World Bank. In addition, Marc worked at AT&T's global strategy team and Deutsche Bank. Marc holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Mark Stevens, Partner, Fenwick & West: Mr. Stevens represents companies (ranging from newly formed startup teams to mature public companies), venture capitalists and investment banks involved in the information technology industries, with particular focus on complex transactions. As a lawyer and a business principal, Mr. Stevens has lead teams handling merger, acquisition and divestiture transactions with total announced value in excess of $20 billion. He has directed over 25 initial public offerings of technology companies and hundreds of strategic alliance transactions, ranging from technology and distribution partnerships to multinational joint venture transactions. George Zachary, General Partner, Charles River Ventures: George Zachary joined Cha rles River Ventures in 2004 as a general partner, bringing more than 17 years of operating and investing experience in computing and consumer technology. Georges focus is on building great services and software technology companies. George led CRVs investments in cRight, GoTV and Odeo, and is on each companys board of directors. Previously, he was a general partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV). His directorships included: Accrue Software (Nasdaq:ACRU), Andale, Critical Path (Nasdaq: CPTH), Odeo, Ovation Entertainment, Sandcastle (acquired by Adobe, Nasdaq:ADBE), Securify (acquired by Kroll-OGara, Nasdaq: KROG), Shutterfly, Supertracks (acquired by Centerspan) and Telebot (acquired by Z-Tel, Nasdaq: ZTEL). Prior to MDV, George led the Nintendo 64 development business at Silicon Graphics, managed sales and marketing for virtual reality pioneer VPL Research, and served as a product marketeer at CATS Software. He is a board advisor at the MIT Sloan School of Business and Stanford BASES. He is also an advisor to X PRIZE. George earned a joint BS from MIT and MIT Sloan School of Business.
Jeremy Liew, Partner, Lightspeed Venture Partners: Jeremy Liew joined Lightspeed Venture Partners in 2006 as a Partner. Previously Jeremy was with AOL, first as SVP of Corporate Development and Chief of Staff to the CEO, and then as General Manager of Netscape. He joined AOL from InterActiveCorp (originally USA Networks) where he was VP of Strategic Planning. While there he was responsible for acquisitions and investments in TV Networks, consumer internet companies and online travel companies. Jeremy started working in the consumer internet industry as an early employee of CitySearch in 1996 where he held a variety of sales management, operational and business development roles. He was also a management consultant at McKinsey and Company. Jeremy holds an MBA from Stanford and a BA/BSc(Hons) from the Australian National University in Linguistics and Pure Mathematics.
