Mobile Gaming Experience - the Next Generation in Games, Devices and the Coming High Speed Delivery of Content
As the portable games industry evolves into a global mobile gaming experience, the confluence of enhanced handsets and platforms, the increasing broadband delivery infrastructure and the acceptance on the part of the consumer, presents a mobile universe of untold possibilities. To this point, the games industry has only just begin to explore the cutting edge technologies in developing mobile games and device sophistication – it is just emerging from its first generation. With that in mind, one can only imagine what the world of mobile games as a consumer experience will look like in two or three years. Mobile gaming and the portable device is the killer combination in the making and in this session, we begin to explore what that future world will look like.

Brian Wolkenberg,
Games Lead, Global Entertainment Solutions, Motorola Mobile Devices: As Games Lead within Motorola's Global Entertainment Portfolio Planning team, Brian Wolkenberg is responsible for bringing superior, feature-rich, wireless experiences to market. With a focus on product planning and ecosystems, Wolkenberg collaborates with technology, service, and content partners to drive Motorola's portfolio of mobile entertainment devices. For three years Wolkenberg has delivered end-to-end entertainment solutions to Motorola devices worldwide, including games, music, and personalization. He drove initiatives with internal and external partners - from definition through go-to-market planning. Wolkenberg began his career at Motorola as business development manager in 2000 after earning dual graduate degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and Management as a Fellow in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Leaders for Manufacturing Program. In this role, Wolkenberg supported worldwide alliances including technology licenses, co-development, joint marketing, and equity investments. Prior to entering the Leaders for Manufacturing Program, Wolkenberg served as a development engineer for Quantum Corporation. Wolkenberg earned his undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University, graduating cum laude with honors. He currently serves on the Operating Committee of the Leaders for Manufacturing Program.

Travis Boatman,
VP Worldwide Studios, Mobile for Electronic Arts: As Vice President Worldwide Studios, Mobile for Electronic Arts, Travis Boatman oversees the studio production of next generation mobile titles. Bringing his experience from the console and PC realm to JAMDAT in 2001, Travis has shipped over 100 mobile games worldwide. A native of Silicon Valley, Travis has been involved with the video game industry, in both a publishing and developer capacity, for over fifteen years.










Doug Twilleager is the Chief Architect of the Game Technologies Group at Sun Microsystems. Doug has been working with mobile game developers and wireless carriers over the past 3 years to help make Java the best platform for mobile game development. Prior to working in the Game Technologies Group, Doug's focus was on graphics technologies working on products such as Java 3D and OpenGL. He also spent time in the graphics research group at Sun. During his 16 years at Sun, he has also worked on technologies such as XGL, the X server, and the X11/NeWS server. His reseach interests include advanced rendering techniques and programmable shading.

Peter Ahnegård, Partner Manager, Games & Graphics, Sony Ericsson: Peter Ahnegard joined Sony Ericsson in March 2004 as Partner Manager for third party game developers for Sony Ericsson’s Java ME-enabled mobile phones. He is responsible for Sony Ericsson’s gaming offering for Fun & Downloads, PlayNow™ and phone preload opportunities. Peter also supports partners with game development know-how, technical support and business opportunities through Sony Ericsson Developer World. The mission is to build relations and sign distribution deals with key game developers on a global scale and channeling third party content to Sony Ericsson’s own distribution channels. Before Peter joined Sony Ericsson, he worked for many years in the IT industry and was behind many professional gaming projects in Sweden.

Russell Weiss is a partner in the Los Angeles and Century City offices of Morrison & Foerster LLP and a Co-Head of its Technology and Entertainment practice and Head of the firmwide Video Game practice. Mr. Weiss specializes in transactional matters and counseling in the fields of entertainment, technology, media and intellectual property with a particular focus on the convergence of entertainment and technology. Mr. Weiss has represented video game, motion picture, television, cable, music, video game and multimedia companies in structuring, negotiating and drafting a broad range of agreements involving the financing, acquisition, development, production, marketing, promotion, distribution, publishing, sale and other exploitation of video games, motion pictures, television and Internet programming, and music. Mr. Weiss also has represented a wide array of technology companies in structuring, negotiating and drafting agreements involving the research, development, licensing, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, sale and other exploitation of technology. He regularly counsels clients on intellectual property and commercial law matters, including, without limitation: piracy; privacy; fair use; the Digital Millennium Copyright Act; digital rights management; advertising; contests, sweepstakes and gaming; right of publicity; and unfair competition. In addition, Mr. Weiss has experience litigating cases involving intellectual property and commercial law issues in federal and state courts. Mr. Weiss has spoken on many panels concerning issues faced by the entertainment, music, video game and technology industries and has been widely quoted in Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, CNET News and other publications. Prior to his joining Morrison & Foerster in 1999, Mr. Weiss served as Counsel both in the Motion Picture Division of Columbia Pictures as well as in the Business and Legal Affairs Department of Disney Interactive, Inc. Mr. Weiss received his J.D. in 1994 from Loyola Law School where he was a Staff Writer for the Loyola Law Review. He received his B.A. in 1990 from the University of California, Los Angeles. Mr. Weiss is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association where he serves on the Board of Governors and on the Executive Committee of the Intellectual Property, Internet and New Technologies Section. Mr. Weiss is a member of the California bar.
