At the moment there is more money chasing fewer ready resources creating a minor frenzy of acquisition and start-up activity, but as the market predictably shakes out, how the relationship between the traditional and new media companies settles will create a fascinating foundation for the next step in growth for our industry. Are we building toward another bubble or are we laying the groundwork for a period of hypergrowth in the convergence space? Media companies are making nine and ten figure bets in this new arms race and what the future holds is anyones guess. The Google Effect is a game for serious players. In this capacity, he oversees all strategic partnerships, business development, acquisitions, joint ventures, investments, and finance and planning for CNET Games & Entertainment. Prior to joining CNET Games & Entertainment in 2002, Keith managed international corporate development for CNET, assisting in establishing, managing and expanding CNETs international presence in Europe and Asia-Pacific. Keith joined ZDNet in 1999 (which was acquired by CNET Networks in 2000) as part of its corporate development group. Prior to joining ZDNet, Keith was an Associate with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in its Technology Mergers & Acquisitions Group. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley. Allen Z. Sussman, Partner, Morrison & Foerster LLP: Allen Sussman's practice focuses on the representation of emerging growth companies and investors in the technology and media sectors, with an emphasis on the following principal areas: serving as outside general counsel to clients in corporate and securities matters, public and private securities offerings, venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate partnering and strategic alliance arrangements, formation of investment funds and licensing of intellectual property. Mr. Sussman also represents banks, broker-dealers and underwriters in securities matters. Mr. Sussman has been the first-chair lawyer on numerous public securities transactions including public mergers, follow-on public offerings, PIPES offerings, public tender offers and initial public offerings. Mr. Sussman is a frequent lecturer in the areas of venture capital transactions, securities offerings, strategic and other business transactions involving technology and media companies. Prior to private law practice, in the early 1990's Mr. Sussman was an enforcement attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., where he handled a number of high-profile cases. Sun Jen Yung, Managing Director, Investment Banking, TD Securities, bas ed in New York, NY. At TD Securities, Sun has responsibility for the Digital Media investment banking practice. As part of the Media and Communications Group, she also covers a variety of cable, entertainment and media companies as well as financial sponsors. She joined TD Securities in August 2005 from Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., where she was a senior banker in the Media & Telecom Investment Banking Group. Suns experience of over thirteen years in investment banking also includes corporate finance coverage of Internet and software companies as well as equity research at Lehman Brothers. Prior to Lehman Brothers, she spent two years at TCSI in Berkeley, CA in Business Development and Finance. Sun graduated from Columbia Business School in 1988 with an MBA in Finance and a B.A. in Economics and International Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 1984.Peter Levin, President, Bellrock Media / Co-owner, Chicago Rush / Pa rtner, Palisades Baseball: Peter Levin has been involved in the Entertainment and Sports industries since 1990. His career began in the mailroom at Creative Artists Agency. Shortly after joining the Agency, he began working directly for its Chairman and Founder, Michael S. Ovitz. In 1994, he began working with the Corporate Advisory department of the Agency. The Agencys corporate clients at the time included, among others, the Matsushita Electric Industrial Company, Ltd., Sony, Nike, and Credit Lyonnais. While servicing the Agencys corporate clientele, he was also actively involved with the team of executives managing the worldwide advertising and marketing campaign for the Coca-Cola Company. In 1996, when Mr. Ovitz was appointed President of The Walt Disney Company, Mr. Levin joined him. At Disney, he first served as a member of the Corporate Strategic Planning Team, where he focused on new and emerging technologies. After one year of service in his corporate capacity, he joined Disney Online. At Disney Online, he became Vice President and Executive Producer overseeing the ESPN Sports and ABC News online subscription services. In 1999 Mr. Levin left The Walt Disney Company to rejoin Mr. Ovitz where he became the point person in Mr. Ovitzs attempt to secure the 32nd National Football League expansion franchise for the Los Angeles market. From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Levin also served as Managing Director and Partner of Lynx Technologies, an investment and consulting vehicle with Mr. Ovitz as its Principal. In June 1999, Mr. Levin, along with Arthur Price and Alan M. Levin, acquired the expansion Arena Football League franchise to locate in Chicago. The Chicago Rush began play in April 2001 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. In addition to the AFL franchise, the ownership group acquired two af2 franchises to locate in Rockford, IL, and Youngstown, OH, respectively. In January 2000 Mr. Levin joined his father, Alan M. Levin, as a Partner in Palisades Baseball, Ltd., a company founded by Alan M. Levin, which currently owns and operates three minor league baseball franchises: the South Bend Silver Hawks, a Class A franchise in the Midwest league affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks; the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, a Class A franchise in New York-Pennsylvania League affiliated with the Cleveland Indians; and the West Virginia Power, a Class A franchise in the South Atlantic League affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers. Recently the Company sold the Erie SeaWolves, a Double A franchise in the Eastern League. In March 2001, Mr. Levin co-founded Battle Entertainment, a sports and entertainment production/management entity which managed the global media rights to K-1, the worlds largest martial arts promotional entity. K-1 produces 22 events annually in 20 countries (on 5 continents) and is widely considered the NFL of martial arts. Battle brought K-1 to the United States by negotiating pay-per-view deals with DirecTV, InDemand, Dish Network and TVN. Battle also brought K-1 to domestic terrestrial cable via a broadcast deal with ESPN. In February 2004, The Battle Group merged with AniManagement to form Quattro Media, a management, production and marketing entity. Battle, with its primary focus on the management and production of sports, videogames and live event properties combined with AniManagements preeminent roster of animators, creators, publishers, writers, producers and directors. In May, 2004, Quattro opened its Asian offices based in Tokyo. Quattro Asia, run by former IMG Asia head, Ken Berger, is focused primarily on the Asian markets of Japan, Hong Kong, Seoul and Beijing. Its clients include Vodafone, Reebok International, EA Japan and the WWE Asia. Mr. Levins latest venture, Bellrock Media, Inc., was formed in June of 2005 to focus on the development, production, and delivery of digital content for mobile and broadband platforms. Investors include Intel Capital, Japanese media powerhouse Yoshimoto Kogyo, Fandango, and Faith, Inc. In addition to these pursuits Mr. Levin serves on the Board of Directors of Phonebites, The Arena Football League, and the Advisory Boards of Global Streams, MESoft and Auctionhelper, and prior to its acquisition by IGN, served on the Board of Directors of Gamespy Industries.
